Searchers of New Horizons Exhibition

OBX History Weekend 2022 Searchers of New Horizons Exhibition, Thursday Evening 6:00-8:00PM, March 31st.

On Thursday evening, March 31st, 2022, OBX History Weekend’s Searchers of New Horizons Exhibition kicks off with a Wine and Cheese Reception for symposium attendees from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dare County Arts Council in Manteo Town Center.

Internationally recognized curator, Alexandra Klingelhofer, is at the helm of the collection and former Pamunkey chief, Kevin Brown, provides commentary from the Native American point-of-view.

The exhibition with on-site costumed docents providing information about featured displays will be open to the public with no reservations from April 1st through 9th, 2022.

Searchers of New Horizon Exhibition Hours:
April 1st – April 9th, 2022
Tuesday through Friday – 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Saturday – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The exhibition features photos and artifacts of aviation dreamers, questers, and inventors, whose paths crossed the Outer Banks with displays including:

  • Theodor de Bry’s engravings of John White’s watercolors with text by Thomas Harriot dating back to the 1590s
  • Former Pamunkey and artist Chief Kevin Brown’s Native-American sculptures of John White’s watercolor images of Carolina Algonquians
  • Collection of copies of John White’s watercolors by Bessie Barclay (1930s); Sidney King (1950s); and the UNC-Chapel Hill collotypes (1960s)
  • Photos and artifacts associated with aviation dreamers—Wright Brothers & Sister; General Billy Mitchell; Amelia Earhart; Francis Rogallo; Chuck Yeager

All of the individuals in the exhibition will be elaborated on further at the OBX History Weekend: Searchers of New Horizons International Symposium and Entertainments that begins on Wednesday, March 31st, 2022.

No reservations are required for the public hours of the exhibition and site tours.
