New Agreement with Park Service

On Friday, 10 July 2015, the First Colony Foundation entered into a new cooperative agreement with the National Park Service at Fort Raleigh Historic Site in Manteo, North Carolina. Vice-President Eric Klingelhofer represented the Foundation. The other signatory was the new Outer Banks Group Superintendent David Hallac who expressed his support for this renewed partnership for archaeological research.

The new document is based upon a five-year research plan proposed by FCF to be authorized, monitored, and funded to $350,000 by the National Park Service. Outer Banks Group’s Cultural Resource Manager Jami Lanier prepared the new document. This combined FCF/NPS team hopes work continued work will produce important new discoveries. Excavations are projected to begin in April 2016 to commemorate at Fort Raleigh the National Park Service Centennial.
