“Beneath the Sand: Past & Present Archaeology at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site” presents the story of how archaeology at Fort Raleigh has changed over the years, and displays some of the artifacts that have been found. Come visit this special exhibit at the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site Visitor’s Center. The First Colony Foundation, the Friends of Outer Banks History Center, Elizabeth R. and Company, and the National Park Service join to present digs, lectures, and an exhibition this fall. You’re invited to attend and it’s all free.

“Shepherd of the Ocean,” a whimsical comedy about Queen Elizabeth and Sir Walter Raleigh’s mercurial relationship
Just before his execution in 1618, Raleigh thinks about the queen, and is transported to the astral plane where the queen materializes in full regalia. The two laugh, cry and review some of their past triumphs to understand the nature of their true feelings for each other. Barbara Hird appears as Queen Elizabeth and Chris Chappell is Sir Walter Raleigh.
